Physical exertion of the body and other skills done either recreationally to pass time or as a competition with set rules and condition can basically be termed as a sport. Jumping or falling into water from a springboard commonly referred to as diving is a common sport recognized all over the world used for recreational or for competition. It is a form of acrobatic activity that involves performing extraordinary human feats to enhance balance and motor coordination and makes use of gymnastic elements. Training and competitions involving diving are all supervised and this helps to minimize the risk of injuries and accident. Accidental injuries might occur in instances when one decides to jump from structures such as a bridge into waters whose depth is inadequate.
A major type of diving that uses a scuba is the scuba diving. A scuba utilized in scuba diving is a short form for self-contained underwater breathing apparatus which is an apparatus used for breathing proving a person with breathing gas at the ambient pressure. Scuba diving is, therefore, a form of underwater diving where the diver has to have a scuba for providing the breathing gas supplied to a person doing scuba diving through a regulator. Activities that allows for scuba diving can be doing it as a recreational pastime or for professional activities involving scientific research, military, and public safety. Scuba diving is done for many activities that can range from professional activities such as involving scientific research, military and public safety to recreation activities for pastime. For one to do scuba diving, he/she should be having fins attached to the legs that assist one in movement under water. Scuba diver can also be propelled by the use of diver propulsion vehicle or a sled that is pulled from the surface. Scuba diving also requires one to have a mask that helps one have a clear vision when under the water. Protection when in the water environment is key hence one should have a protective device or gear as well as a device that ensures buoyancy when in the water. Depending on the importance of scuba diving, one should also be having the needed instruments and equipment to carry out the purpose successfully.
There some risks involved while doing scuba diving but with proper management, the risks can be highly minimized. Drowning can occur when underwater environment due to panic or other underlying health problems as well as a diver can be trapped by materials present in the water environment. A person doing scuba diving should have a clean bill of health and also should be properly trained to prevent any chance of panic while under water. Another challenge that can be experienced is the decompression sickness which occurs when one breathes compressed air at depth making tissues to absorb more nitrogen. Decompression sickness can be easily be avoided by ascending slowly during scuba diving and performing safety stops.
