Yaacov Hecht, a world leader in developing progressive and participative
classrooms and schools, will be presenting a two-day workshop and two evening
lectures at the Christchurch College of Education. Teachers, parents and
students are invited to come and consider the creation of truly functional
learning environments that recognize the uniqueness of each student.
Yaacov is Director of The Institute for Democratic Education in Israel which
supports more than 100 regular state schools and 22 free/democratic schools.
The Institute also coordinates The Forum Hawadi Project—one of the main
programs for education for peace in Israel. Yaacov made a positive impact in
Christchurch last year as a key note speaker at the International Democratic
Education Conference.
Lecture: Education for a Sustainable Society
Date: Thursday 11th September 7.30pm
Focus: Pluralistic learning acknowledges the uniqueness of the student
and is based on the equal right of every person to express this uniqueness.
Workshop: New Ways To look At Learning Environment - Creating & Operating Classrooms & Schools which Work for Everyone
Date: Monday 15th & Tuesday 16th September, 9.30am—4.00pm.
Focus: How we can create a new learning environment that helps children
to take responsibility for their learning and for their society. Looking at
education innovation from a personal point of view.
Note: The workshop is limited to 40 participants
Lecture: The Third Wave, Present, Vision and Mission
Date: Tuesday 16th September 7.30pm
Focus: Considering future directions for progressive-innovative
education.
