The Brooklyn Free School

The Brooklyn Free School, a K-12, independent non-profit school based on Summerhill and Sudbury philosophies, is entering its third year and is growing.

As a result, we are looking for a strong, caring, well organized, resourceful, hard working, self-starting teacher to work with a group of students from age 7 to age 9 or 10, and who understands and believes in democratic education, to join this very diverse community.

The successful candidate will work in a collaborative team environment with staff and parents on all aspects of school development.
The ability and desire to relate to and work with children of different ages, interests, backgrounds, needs, and skill levels to help develop, implement, and monitor engaging, open-ended curriculum and avenues of exploration is required.
Excellent planning, preparation, conflict resolution, interpersonal and communication skills are a must.

If you enjoy working with children, have a desire to build community through rich curriculum and attention to individual student strengths and interests, we'd love to meet with you!

Minority applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
