Goal
Training expert consultants for the implementation of ideas of Democratic
Education in various educational systems (private and public).
Target Audience
Democratic education personnel, organizational consultants and psychologists
from all over the world, who are interested in the field. The number of
participants is limited to twenty. These will be accepted on the basis of an
interview or their CV.
Content
Principles of Democratic Education
The course will expose the participants to different elements of democratic
education:

The principles of organizational democracy
The course will expose the participants to the approaches and the means to
democratic administration of schools, and to the democratic processes required
for an organizational change:

Practicum
During or after the course each participant will receive personal guiding in
working with an educational institution. The participant will work with his or
her chosen institution for a year and document the process as a prerequisite
for a diploma of the Institute for Democratic Education.
The Process
The course will serve as an exercise in democratic education; the tools of
democratic education will be learnt through the practical usage of these very
same tools.
Structure and Dates
This 18 months course will include the following stages:

The first meeting will take place in Israel and last 10 days.

From October till April the course will continue in e-learning mode.

A 5 day summarizing meeting would take place in Israel in April.

Each participant will receive consultation for a period of one year on the work
he or she perform in his or her chosen educational institute.
Graduation

At the end of the training period (phase I) each participant will receive a
certificate acknowledging his or her participation in the course.

At the end of the practicum, after submitting a project that would include a
full documentation of the advisory process, participants would get a diploma of
"expert consultant on democratization processes in educational systems".
Facilitation
The Institute for Democratic Education has a vast field experience:
Since 1987 the Institute for Democratic Education has guided educational
institutions through democratization processes. This year the IDE works with
about 100 educational institutions, including 22 democratic schools, in
addition to a few municipalities and high-tech companies. Since 1995 the IDE
holds a consultants course on democratization processes. This is the first time
the course will include overseas participants.

Cost
The course will cost $2200, including 15 full board days, written materials, on
going facilitation throughout the course and the practicum (a personal
consultant for each participant).
Comments

For regional groups of 12 to 20 participants the course can be held in any
chosen country convenient for these participants. This would allow lowering the
cost of the course.

Graduates of the course will be encouraged to take a parallel course that
focuses on democratization of public and commercial organizations (especially
high-tech companies.)

After gaining four years of hands-on experience, former participants would be
encouraged to take a "train the trainer" course that would certify them to be
facilitators in the consultants course on democratization processes.
